Camp Darfur was like nothing I have experienced before. Right in front
of me were 5 tents where I could learn all about our world’s genocides
in the 20th century. After each genocide, humanity would say “Never
Again.” But it happened again. And again. And again…. not only did my
heart break, but it also grew fierce with determination to not let
these people down again. Eleanor Roosevelt said, “It isn’t enough to
talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to
believe in it. One must work at it.” I do not want to be a part of a
generation that stands aside. Thanks Camp Darfur for coming–you made
a difference in a lot of people!

Camp Darfur is a wonderful tool to spread awareness about genocide to the public. Our generation has been labeled by so many pundits as being apathetic. If history remembers us as a generation of iPod listening, self-indulgent, tech savvy, tv watching, videogame playing…individuals, we have failed. We, as much as anyone, should feel connected to our brothers and sisters around the world! Camp Darfur is a great example of how to make an impact on our world; nearly two weeks after the event people are still asking me about Darfur and genocide…and most importantly what they can do to help! Genocide cannot, and should not, be tolerated! Lets make “Never Again” a reality! Never give up hope that a light can rise up from the darkest of nights. Never quit trying to make a difference no matter how many times you fall down. Because life without passion and purpose is no life at all, and a world where people are being murdered or chased from their homes is no place to live.
But peace does not rest in the charters and covenants alone. It lies in the hearts and minds of all people. So let us not rest all our hopes on parchment and on paper, let us strive to build peace, a desire for peace, a willingness to work for peace in the hearts and minds of all of our people. I believe that we can. I believe the problems of human destiny are not beyond the reach of human beings. -John F. Kennedy
