Dear President Obama:

Special Envoy Gration keeps talking about trust, carrots, honey, cookies, and stars as policy towards a genocidal government. However, Human Rights Watch has reported this week on new attacks in Darfur by the Sudanese government, with dozens of innocent civilians dying and several villages destroyed.

Your appointed Special Envoy to Sudan, General Scott Gration, is quoted as recently saying: “Up to now, the efforts I’ve seen make me say, ‘Yes, I’m willing to take a risk that I’ll be betrayed,’ and if that trust is violated, then I believe pressure should come.”

Innocent civilians will continue to die, as the US Special Envoy takes the risk and waits to be betrayed, over an over again by al-Bashir.

You both promised a strong policy with tough measures to ensure peace and justice come to Darfur, and it is now time for action.

Sincerely,

your name

-Please take the extra minute to send the same message to Secretary of State Clinton.

It is now 260 days since your inauguration. Special Envoy Gration keeps talking about trust, carrots, honey, cookies, and stars as policy towards a genocidal government. How long will it take for your administration to come out with and implement a strong policy with tough measures to ensure peace and justice come to Darfur? You promised this, and it is now time for action.

Sincerely,

Please consider sending an email to the White House. I realize so many things are important, but Africans in Darfur and the Sudan have been living out GENOCIDE for too long. We should have learned our lessons many decades ago — we certainly claim that we did — but we let 100,000 Africans die in Rwanda in the 90’s, and have continued to let it happen in Africa in this decade. When is enough, enough? We talk such a big game in the U.S., but we have never lived the fear, loss and murder that so many in the world have…instead, we worry about many selfish things. This has been and continues to be an area we claim to care about — time to actually find a way to save lives, instead of just put up signs and give it lip service. Can you imagine what would happen if tens of thousands of Americans were MURDERED VIOLENTLY?
